WARWICK, R.I. (AP) _ The Rhode Island health department has closed two beaches in Warwick to swimming because of high bacteria counts in the water.
The department said Wednesday that Conimicut Beach is not safe for swimming because of high levels of bacteria. Oakland Beach is also closed to swimming.
Health officials will recommend that the beaches be reopened to swimming once bacteria levels fall to within acceptable limits.
The health department tests water quality at beaches throughout the state during the summer months to ensure safe conditions.
