BRISTOL, R.I. (AP) — A Bristol man injured when the dragster he was working on shot across a street and crashed last week has died.

Police tell The Providence Journal that 51-year-old Steven Elmslie died at the hospital on Thursday, a week after the crash.

Witnesses told police that the dragster shot out of the parking lot of Elmco Tool Co., across a street, and crashed into steel meat smoking shed behind a restaurant, narrowly missing a worker.

Police said Elmslie was knocked unconscious. He was taken to Rhode Island Hospital in critical condition.

The cause remains under investigation.
