WEST WARWICK, R.I. (AP) _ Eight doctors-in-training at Kent Hospital are taking part in a new program in which they will do their family medicine residencies based at a community health center rather than the hospital.
The partnership between Care New England and Thundermist Health Center launched on Monday. The residents will see patients at Thundermist's West Warwick location.
Care New England CEO Dennis Keefe says the arrangement marks a new and innovative approach in the effort to transform health care. Thundermist CEO Chuck Jones says the partnership provides a unique training opportunity that will help bolster primary care in Rhode Island.
The Rhode Island Foundation is supporting the partnership with an $80,000 grant.
Kent Hospital is a member of the Care New England network.
