PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — The new chief of the economic development agency responsible for the failed investment in Curt Schilling's video game company says it will earn back its reputation and rebuild confidence in Rhode Island's economic recovery efforts.

Executive Director Marcel Valois says the Economic Development Corp.'s reputation was tarnished over 38 Studios, but that it's working hard on vital initiatives and moving forward.

Valois was confirmed in May, with the EDC still smarting from 38 Studios' collapse. The agency that gave Schilling's company a $75 million loan guarantee is suing the former Red Sox pitcher and Valois' predecessor, among others, over the deal.

Valois says the EDC is stepping up its efforts to help existing businesses and preparing a campaign to boost Rhode Island's reputation as a place to do business.
