PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — A 20-year-old Providence man charged with fatally shooting another 20-year-old man over the weekend has been held without bail after appearing in court.

Justice Andrade did not enter a plea to the murder charge on Tuesday. His attorney declined to comment afterward.

Andrade is accused of shooting Ty-Shon Perry outside a house on River Avenue just before 2 a.m. Saturday. Andrade turned himself in to police on Monday.

Prosecutors say Andrade walked up to Perry and fired. Perry was able to get back inside the house but died later at a hospital.

Police have said Perry may have been shot by mistake while visiting a cousin.

Perry was the father of a year-old son. His family says he received an associate's degree in criminal justice in May and wanted to join the state police.
