PAWTUCKET, R.I. (AP) — A former Pawtucket police officer who resigned after being charged in a domestic violence case has been charged with raping and trying to strangle another girlfriend.

The Providence Journal reports that Stephen Ricco is being held without bail after a Pawtucket woman accused him of attacking, raping and biting her on Thanksgiving at his apartment in North Smithfield.

Ricco was arraigned Friday on felony domestic violence charges of rape and strangling and other changes. An affidavit says Ricco refused numerous requests by the woman to take her home. An argument ensued, turning violent.

His lawyer didn't return a call from the newspaper and a phone at his office went unanswered Wednesday morning.

In the earlier case, Ricco was sentenced to anger management counseling and community service. An assault charge was dismissed.
