PAWTUCKET, R.I. (AP) _ Rhode Island's attorney general has signed off on an affiliation between Memorial Hospital in Pawtucket and the Providence-based Care New England hospital group, meaning the transaction can move ahead.
Attorney General Peter Kilmartin approved the affiliation on Tuesday. Health Department Director Michael Fine had already given the necessary approval.
State regulators did the review on an expedited time table of 90 days, rather than the standard 120.
Memorial is a 294-bed community hospital that is a teaching affiliate of Brown University's medical school. The Care New England network includes Women & Infants, Kent and Butler hospitals.
The attorney general's office and the health department are currently reviewing the proposed sale of Landmark Medical Center in Woonsocket to California-based Prime Healthcare Services.
