PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — Rhode Island's secretary of state is renting his new home in Exeter from the family of the state's first lady.

Ralph Mollis tells the Providence Journal he began renting the 3-bedroom guest house on the farm owned by Stephanie Chafee's family in June.

He says he was forced to move out of a house he had been renting in North Kingstown after a bank foreclosed on that home's owner.

Mollis says the governor suggested the rental arrangement as they were discussing his predicament over lunch in May.

Neither Mollis nor the governor's office will say how much he is paying under a month-to-month lease, but both say it is a fair market price.

Mollis is one of three Democrats running in the primary for lieutenant governor.
