PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — A lawyer at a legal clinic in Pennsylvania that provides free representation to victims of domestic violence has been appointed an assistant U.S. attorney in Rhode Island.

The appointment of Bethany Wong was announced on Monday by U.S. Attorney Peter Neronha. Wong is assigned to the civil division.

Wong has served as a staff attorney at the nonprofit Women Against Abuse legal center in Philadelphia since early 2012. In that role, she represented domestic violence victims in family court and superior court through a program funded by the U.S. Justice Department.

Wong worked previously in private practice at a Philadelphia firm on civil, criminal and appellate matters in both federal and state courts.

She's a native of Lancaster, Pennsylvania.
