PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — Police say two men are being questioned in connection with the fatal shooting of a 16-year-old boy in Providence.

Police Maj. David Lapatin tells The Providence Journal the teen was in a vehicle when he was shot around 1 p.m. Wednesday on Adelaide Avenue.

Lapatin said the boy was taken to Hasbro Children's Hospital where he was pronounced dead. His name wasn't immediately released but Lapatin said he is from the Providence area.

Lapatin said the men in custody fit the description of suspects who shot the teen. A police officer saw them walking in the area near the shooting.

Lapatin said police also found a discarded gun in a backyard on Sumster Street that will be examined to see if it was used to kill the boy.
