PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — Gubernatorial hopeful Gina Raimondo has outlined plans to address gun violence, domestic violence and human trafficking, saying that fixing social problems is an important element of improving the economy.

The general treasurer met Thursday with community advocates. She says the Office of Economic Empowerment she wants to create as governor would work on the issues to ensure action and results.

Raimondo wants to ban the sale of semi-automatic weapons and boost cooperation among agencies that work with domestic violence victims. She also wants to explore a "one-strike" rule to close establishments where prostitution is found to be occurring.

Providence's violent crime rate is down, mirroring a national trend, but Raimondo criticized Mayor Angel Taveras over the number of shootings.

Raimondo and Taveras face Clay Pell in September's Democratic primary.
