PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) _ The National Weather Service says Rhode Island could see severe thunderstorms with damaging winds, hail and heavy rain.
The hazardous weather outlook on Wednesday is for all five of Rhode Island's counties as well as northern Connecticut and most of Massachusetts.
With the hot, humid weather sticking around, Rhode Island emergency officials were urging residents seeking shelter from the heat to visit cooling centers. More than 40 libraries, community centers and senior centers in cities and towns across the state have been designated as cooling centers.
Health officials say residents should try to stay in air-conditioned environments, whenever possible, and limit strenuous activity.
Wednesday's forecast high is 89.
