RI House Speaker faces ethics complaint

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — The Speaker of the Rhode Island House is facing an ethics complaint over income from legal work he did for a Providence economic development agency.

The Providence Journal reports that the state Ethics Commission will vote on Tuesday whether it will pursue the complaint, which alleges that Gordon Fox failed to disclose income he received from the Providence Economic Development Partnership on annual financial disclosures.

The complaint was filed by Judith Reilly of Salem, Mass.

Fox, a Providence Democrat and an attorney in private practice, has handled dozens of loan closings as a subcontractor for the city's Economic Development Partnership over several years.

It's up to the Ethics Commission to determine whether the complaint merits an investigation.

A spokesman for Fox said he had no comment on the complaint.
