PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) _ Search efforts have been suspended for a missing 21-year-old Brown University student whose kayak was found a few miles off the Massachusetts coast.

Authorities had been searching for Dana Dourdeville of Marion, Mass., after he failed to return from a duck hunting trip Tuesday. Police say Dourdeville's mother found his car parked at the West Island town beach.

The U.S. Coast Guard located his kayak about 2{ miles east of West Island. There was a single glove inside and it didn't appear the kayak had flipped.

Massachusetts Environmental Police resumed an offshore search Thursday morning but conditions worsened throughout the day as a winter storm intensified. The effort was suspended around 1:30 p.m.

A Brown spokeswoman says ``our thoughts are with Dana and his family at this difficult time.''
