A Rhode Island nature center has released a snow owl back to the wild, about six weeks after it was found with a broken wing at Quonset Point in North Kingstown.
The Born to be Wild Nature Center in Westerly nursed the owl back to good health and released it Thursday morning at an undisclosed shoreline location. The center also plans to release another owl found injured in Providence last month on Sunday.
John and Vivian Maxson run the nonprofit center that specializes in birds of prey. John Maxson told The Providence Journal (http://bit.ly/1cJzBMN ) that the owl released Thursday flew the length of three football fields before coming down for a rest.
John Maxson says the owl was a plump 4{ pounds when it was released.
