PAWTUCKET, R.I. (AP) — A young chef from Pawtucket has been given the key to the city after he won a White House contest for healthy lunchtime recipes.

Twelve-year-old Kinnan Hammond-Dowie received the key, as well as a citation from Mayor Donald Grebien on Thursday.

Kinnan was Rhode Island's winner of first lady Michelle Obama's Healthy Lunchtime Challenge contest for his "Mediterranean Kebab Wrap with Cilantro Tabbouleh." He was invited to attend a "Kids' State Dinner" at the White House on July 18, which will include a trip to the White House Kitchen Garden.

Kinnan, who is homeschooled, says he is excited and honored. He also hopes to visit the Smithsonian Institution, including the exhibit about one of his favorite chefs, Julia Child.

Grebien told Kinnan the whole city was proud of him.
