Gene Simmons is doubling down –again –on his take that “rock is dead.” He’s been saying it for years, and taking heat from colleagues like Alice Cooper – and in a new interview he says it’s not that the “talent isn’t there,” it’s that the “business model just doesn’t work.”
Gene is still blaming young people for the death of rock n’ roll, saying the rise of streaming and file sharing means that people don’t want to pay for music anymore. But he also takes issue with the boy bands that are popular right now, like BTS, which he says will never be The Beatles because their fans will age out and lose interest.
But Gene’s KISS bandmate Paul Stanley doesn't agree. His take is that just because the “pulse is weak,” doesn’t mean it’s dead… or that it won’t “come back stronger.” “I don't think that bands can be dead, rock can be dead,” he adds. It just takes somebody to reignite it to the level that it has been at some time in the past."
