Comedian Norm MacDonald Dies After 9 Year Cancer Battle

Shocked to hear that former Saturday Night Live alum and comedian Norm MacDonald passed away yesterday at the young age of 61! Apparently not very many people even knew he was sick, but he was privately battling cancer for the past nine years. Apparently he kept his illness even from friends and family.

Several of his celebrity friends paid tribute to him on social media including Steve Martin who tweeted, "We loved Norm MacDonald. One of a kind." Sarah Silverman suggested folks check out some of his past work and commented that MacDonald, "was in a comedy genre of his own." Jim Carrey called him, "one of our most precious gems."

The SNL "Weekend Update" host joined the cast of the late night comedy show in 1993, after spending time writing for the sitcom "Roseanne" in 1992. He was also famous for his David Letterman impression, and he portrayed Larry King and Quentin Tarantino on SNL as well. However my favorite was when he played Burt Reynolds on SNL Celebrity Jeopardy!
