As we prepare for a six day heatwave from Tuesday to Sunday (7/19--7/24), I was curious just how rare such a long hot stretch of weather is here in Southern New England. My friend Mark Searles, Chief Meteorologist at Storm Team 10, WJAR sent me this chart showing that Providence has experienced nine heatwaves of six days or more. The most recent one was in July 2020. Seven days is the record for Rhode Island heatwaves, experienced four times between 1944 and 2006. Check out 1944...There were TWO seven-day heat waves that summer. Yikes. No thank you.
