M&M Is Swapping Their "Spokescandies" For Maya Rudolph

I wonder if this for real or just a publicity stunt? M & M’s announced they are retiring their “Spokescandies,” at least temporarily, replacing them with comedienne and SNL alum Maya Rudolph as spokesperson. Maya is also set to appear in the candy’s upcoming Super Bowl commercial.

What is the motivation for this move? Well, it seems many have criticized the candy company for becoming “too woke.” You may remember last year the Green M&M traded in her white go-go boots for sneakers because they didn’t want her to appear too sexy.  That move seemed to ruffle a lot of feathers.

The company wrote in a statement on Instagram, “In the last year, we’ve made some changes to our beloved “spokescandies.” We weren’t sure if anyone would notice. And we definitely didn’t think it would break the internet. But now we get it — even a candy’s shoes can be polarizing. Which was the last thing M&M’S wanted since we’re all about bringing people together.”

In an interview with Today Rudolph said, “I’m thrilled to be working with M&M’s. I am a lifelong lover of the candy and I feel like it’s such an honor to be asked to be part of such a legendary brand’s campaign.” She said working with M & M’s is something she knows "little Maya" would be psyched about.
