This is turning out to be a year to remember for Lynyrd Skynyrd, and the CMT Music Awards have chosen to recognize it. In addition to losing its last surviving member, Gary Rossington, earlier this month, 2023 is the 50th anniversary of the band’s debut album.

Now The CMT Music Awards have announced a star-studded tribute special to salute the “Sweet Home Alabama” rockers. Guns ‘N Roses’ guitarist Slash and ZZ Top’s Billy Gibbons will take the stage, along Paul Rodgers of Bad Company and a number of country stars and Rolling Stone’s Chuck Leavell in a performance of to-be-announced songs.

CMT is even honoring Skynyrd’s back-up singers. Lending their voices to honor The Honkettes will be Wynonna Judd and LeAnn Rimes. The CMT Awards air this Sunday, April 2nd on CBS.
