The Final Chapter: Last Falcon Fledgling Leaves Providence Nest

I have been following the progress of the falcon family nesting on the "Superman Building" in downtown Providence, and the annual tradition has come to a close. On Thursday, 6/15, the last of four babies (known as "eyas") left the nest, becoming fledglings. The fourth fledgling, the only female in the group, was extremely hesitant. It took her several days after her brothers left until she was confident enough to do so. I was actually watching the camera live when it happened, so that was pretty cool! Check out video of the event, courtesy of the Audubon Society's Falcon Camera below.

Eggs are usually laid in the last week of March or first week of April. Hatchings come about five weeks later in early May. The eyas become fledglings about six to seven weeks after hatching.
