Providence Ranked Among Jolliest Cities in U.S.

The holidays can be hectic and it can get stressful with so much going on, leading some people to feel a little Grinchy. But it seems some places are home to more of those folks than others and a new report reveals where they are.

A team from FinanceBuzz compared 50 of the biggest cities in the U.S. on dozens of metrics related to the spirit of the season in five main categories: communal celebrations and decorations, holiday shopping, holiday season of giving, holiday cheer, and holiday “jeer.”

  • They rated the cities on everything from the number of holiday events and festivals to the number of holiday markets to the number of homeless shelters.
  • Among New England Cities, Providence and Hartford are in the Top 10 jolliest!
  • The cities which hold the most holiday events and festivals are Riverside, California; Buffalo, New York; Baltimore, Maryland; Richmond, Virginia and Orlando.
  • Their analysis shows Oklahoma City, Phoenix, Houston, Memphis and Las Vegas have the fewest holiday events and festivals of all major U.S. cities.
  • Miami residents volunteer the least and donate to charity the least, while those who live in Buffalo are the most likely to donate to charity.
