Warming Shelters Open Across Rhode Island

The Rhode Island Emergency Management Agency is urging residents to take the approaching dangerous cold seriously and prepare accordingly. Plummeting temperatures accompanied by wind chill to 30-degrees below zero is expected from tomorrow into early Saturday. Advice includes dressing in layers, staying indoors, checking heating systems for an adequate supply of oil or propane and allowing water to trickle from faucets to keep pipes from freezing.

With arctic cold temperature approaching Rhode Island has activated its emergency weather plan. It allows more state aid to homeless shelters. Additionally, anyone in need of temporary shelter can also go to community centers, libraries and public safety buildings statewide.
