A Pawtucket man has become the first person to be sentenced under Kristen's Law.
The law that took effect in 2018 allows life sentences for drug dealers in deadly overdose cases.
Forty-four-year-old Walik Morrison has been sentenced to 40-years for delivering the fentanyl that resulted in the death of 35-year-old Tokie Zammarelli in 2022.
“Those who push fentanyl and drive overdose deaths must be held accountable in order to address the root causes of the multiple drug-related crises plaguing our communities,” said Attorney General Peter Neronha . “Though nothing can bring Tokie back to her family, and I am grateful that this defendant will pay for his crimes with this significant sentence. I thank the Pawtucket Police for their hard work and partnership on this case and so many others.”
Rhode Island Attorney General Neronha says those who push fentanyl and drive overdose deaths must be held accountable in order to address the root causes of the drug-related crises plaguing communities.
