It's an exciting day in sports. CONGRATS to Dez Linden who ruled at the finish line today. Despite cold and rainy conditions, she came through as the champ. Rhode Island's own Molly Huddle finished 16th ...a somewhat disappointing finish for her in her Boston debut, but still an impressive feat at 2:50:28. More details below from our sister station in Boston...
BOSTON, MA (WBZ-AM) -- Desiree Linden won the 2018 Boston Marathon Womens' Division Monday with an official time of 2:33:41.
This marks the first win by an American elite marathoner in 33 years.
"She has been coming back and coming back year after year and improving each time," said WBZ NewsRadio1030 Race Analyst Sharon Barbano.
Yuki Kawauchi won the men’s 2018 Boston Marathon Men's Division Monday with an official time of 02:15:54.
This marks the first time a Japanese has won the Boston Marathon since 1987.
Kawauchi's victory was a sudden upset at the tail end of the race as he caught up and passed Geoffrey Kiruri in the last few miles.
