Bob Dylan is set to release a new book this fall. He’ll drop “The Philosophy of Modern Song,” on November 8th featuring 60 essays where he analyzes songs by other artists like Elvis Costello, Hank Williams, Nina Simone and more.
“[Dylan] analyzes what he calls the trap of easy rhymes, breaks down how the addition of a single syllable can diminish a song, and even explains how bluegrass relates to heavy metal,” reads a press release about the book. “These essays are written in Dylan’s unique prose. They are mysterious and mercurial, poignant and profound, and often laugh-out-loud funny.”
It adds, “And while they are ostensibly about music, they are really meditations and reflections on the human condition.”
The release will be the first new book from the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer since the release of his memoir “Chronicles: Volume One. The Philosophy of Modern Song,” in 2004.
