The song that’s inspired millions of workouts since the ‘80s and made famous by the “Rocky” franchise has joined an exclusive club. Survivor’s classic anthem “Eye Of The Tiger” is the newest song to pass 1 billion online streams.
"At first, we wondered if calling it 'Eye Of The Tiger' was too obvious,” admitted writer Jim Peterik, who revealed the got the title from a line in the OG “Rocky” film. The song didn’t make an appearance until 1982’s “Rocky III,” when Sylvester Stallone himself “commissioned” the song for his franchise’s third chapter.
One billion streams is just the newest accolade for a song that has won many distinctions over the years. Survivor’s jam was nominated for Best Original Song at the 1982 Oscars and nominated for two GRAMMYs that same year. It won Best Rock Performance By A Duo Or Group.
