Thanks a lot, Boss. Beatles icon Sir Paul McCartney says it’s all Bruce Springsteen’s fault that everyone in rock is working harder than ever before.
“You can’t (even just) do an hour,” complained McCartney, jokingly, on Conan O’Brien’s podcast “Conan O’Brien Needs A Friend.” “We used to do a half-hour. That was the Beatles’ thing: half an hour and we got paid for it!” The British legend reminded fans that back in the day, there used to be multiple acts on a bill so sets were always short.
“And so we thought, ‘Well, half an hour, that’s like, epic! … It didn’t seem strange,” recalled the icon of rock’s early days. But thanks to his hard-working friend Bruce, fans have been groomed to expect sometimes “three or four hours” at a show. McCartney admitted he’s surprised to be working harder (and longer) now than he did in his 20s.
