Will This Be the First Summer in 60+ Years Without a 90 Degree Day?

The official temperatures in Rhode Island have peaked at 89 degrees this summer, leaving us with the potential of seeing the first year since 1962 without a 90 degree day. While much of the country has seen unprecedented heat, here in Southern New England, our extreme weather has come in the form of high rainfall totals and tornados.

Since records have been kept, Rhode Island has experienced only three years without hitting 90 degrees: 1932, 1951 and 1962. While it is still possible that we may hit 90 in the coming weeks, as the graphic above illustrates, the latest we have ever hit 90 degrees was September 15th, in 1912.
