Rhode Island is well known for its great restaurants. And this year, two restaurants from the Ocean State made the USA Today list of restaurants of the year, which showcases the best dining experiences across the country. These restaurants are Gift Horse in Providence and Sly Fox Den, Too in Charlestown.
Gift Horse, on Westminster St. is a cozy and casual spot that serves seasonal American fare with a creative twist. The menu changes frequently, but some of the signature dishes include the fried chicken sandwich with honey butter and pickles, the roasted cauliflower with tahini and pomegranate, and the chocolate chip cookie skillet with vanilla ice cream. Gift Horse also has a curated wine list and craft cocktails to pair with the food.
Sly Fox Den, Too is a rural restaurant that specializes in wood-fired pizza and a menu that includes influences of Native American food traditions. According to the Providence Journal, Chef Sherry Pocknett recently became the first Indigenous female to win the prestigious James Beard award.
