Kevin Bacon recently said that he was pretty sure a "Footloose" sequel featuring the old cast of characters was a bad idea. Lori Singer, who played opposite Bacon in the original, has a different take on the matter.
Talking to "People" magazine, Singer said, "I don't know if Kevin even remembers this, but I actually had sort of an idea where Ariel grows up and goes to New York where she wanted to be, and Kevin stays there. Kevin stays in the town, and he becomes a bigger deal in the town. That's where he becomes the town lawyer or whatever.” In Singer’s sequel concept, Ariel and Ren are reunited under tragic circumstances. “She comes back because her father's sick. I mean, I just played with that idea years ago and we were talking about it and joking."
Hmm. Nowadays EVERY movie is getting a reboot, so maybe it's not so crazy? "Footloose" WAS remade in 2011 with Julianne Hough playing Singer's role as the wild-girl preacher's daughter, but a SEQUEL? Even though Bacon and Singer are now in their mid-sixties, I wouldn't rule it out.
