The Grammy people have announced who will get will receive this year's Lifetime achievement awards and they include Queen, Neil Diamond, Tina Turner, funk group The Meters, Emmylou Harris, and famous studio drummer Hal Blaine. They will be honored with an award ceremony and concert this summer. Maybe since Neil and Tina both recorded "River Deep, Mountain High," maybe they can manage a duet for the concert. The mash up above sucks, but it could provide a blue print.
Queen, Diamond, Turner, and Harris are pretty much household names and their work and success speaks for itself. You may not be as familiar with the work of the Funk band The Meters, who have inspired countless bands in the genre, and are regularly sampled by rappers, which is a huge compliment and sign of respect in the Hip-Hop world. Their biggest hit was "Cissy Strut" which you may recognize below from its use in countless movies and TV shows.
And as a studio drummer, Hal Blaine played on so many songs you know. You'll be shocked when you see the montage below. And yes, Hal played on ALL of them. Watch, listen, and be amazed.
