A local police dog is in the running for a great honor! Ruby, a Rhode Island State Police K-9 is one of seven dogs being honored as an American Humane Hero Dog, and she's competing for the coveted title of "American Hero Dog." In 2011, Ruby got a second chance at life. After several adoptions didn’t work out, she was scheduled to be euthanized. The Rhode Island State Police stepped in and after the RISPCA recommended she become a search and rescue dog. Her partner, Trooper Daniel O'Neil, says "When she came into my life, she was an unmanageable and highly energetic dog that needed a job." Now she has a job, and is an expert at search and rescue. Ruby even saved the son of her former trainer at the RISPCA. The teen had been missing for over 36 hours when Ruby found him after an 8 hour search of the woods in Gloucester. Ruby truly is a success story and a hero! You can vote for Ruby HERE, but hurry, voting ends Wednesday at 3 p.m.!
