Remember the grandma in Arizona who was trying to text her grandson to invite him to Thanksgiving dinner, and she accidentally texted another teen? That story went viral, and now it’s being made into a movie for Netflix!
Wanda Dench typed in the wrong number, and thought she was texting her grandson about coming over for Thanksgiving. The message went to high school senior Jamal Hinton instead. She realized her mistake, but said he was welcome to come to dinner anyway. Jamal happily accepted, and has gotten together with Wanda and her family for the holiday ever since.
Over the years they have become close friends, and Jamal has even been a shoulder to lean on since Wanda’s husband Lonnie passed away from Covid 19 back in April. The pair shared another Thanksgiving together this year, their 6th in a row.
The new Netflix film “The Thanksgiving Text” will tell the story of that fateful text and the friendship that developed from it. They released a joint statement saying, “We are excited to share our story with the world. We hope it inspires more people to reach out and make connections that they wouldn’t ordinarily make. We are so blessed to find a genuine friendship brought together by God from a mistaken text message.”
