Newport Man Finishes 25th Race after Brain Tumor

NEWPORT, R.I. (AP) _ A Newport man who has run the Boston Marathon every year since recovering from a benign brain tumor has completed his 25th race.
The Providence Journal reports that 49-year-old Scott Nanfelt finished the 26.2-mile course on Monday with an unofficial time of 3:24:24. That's a pace of 7:47.
Nanfelt was 24 in 1988 when he learned he had a brain tumor the size of a tennis ball. He recalls watching the Boston Marathon on TV while in Massachusetts General Hospital recovering from surgery, thinking maybe he would be able to run it the next year. He did.
Each year after he crosses the finish line, Nanfelt heads to the hospital with his finisher's medal and a dozen roses for the nurses in the intensive care unit.
