Denzel Washington Could Make History At The Oscars

Denzel Washington could make history on Sunday. He's up for the Best Actor Oscar for his role in "Fences" and if he wins, it'll be his third Academy Award. That will be more than any other African-American actor.

Denzel is already the most nominated African-American actor with "Fences" nabbing him his seventh nom, but he'll have stiff competition. Casey Affleck is up for the award for his role in "Manchester By the Sea" and the two have been going back and forth when it comes to winning the category at other award shows.

One thing in Denzel's corner? His Screen Actors Guild Award. The last 12 actors to win SAG’s best actor award went on to win the Oscar. The only exception is Johnny Depp, who was nominated for the first "Pirates of the Caribbean" movie, but lost out to "Mystic River's" Sean Penn at the 2004 Oscars.
