Parents In Hot Water For Naming Their Baby "Jihad"

Naming a baby is a big deal. For one couple in France, even the court is getting involved. A couple living near Toulouse tried to name their son "Jihad" when he was born back in August, but locals immediately alerted the public prosecutor.

While it's possible in France for a judge to ban the couple from using the name "Jihad," our perception of the meaning of the word isn't accurate. According to the co-founder of the Toulouse Centre of Muslim Spirituality, Jihad is  a "fundamental concept in Islam" meaning making "the effort to achieve good."

That being said, even he doesn't think it's a good name choice. He admits that in the current world, the name could "cause misunderstanding" and "harm the development of the child."
