After wandering off from her Santa Cruz, California home, 12-year-old Sage, a blind Labrador retriever, spent more than a week lost in the mountains nearby. Thankfully, her neighbor Dan Estrada found her while hiking in the woods, and he carried the tired and hungry yellow lab back home.
"Everybody was searching for her," Estrada says. "Santa Cruz is a huge dog community. That dog means a lot to everybody."
When Estrada saw Sage, he initially thought he was going to have to break bad news to her family, but then the old girl raised her head and he was thrilled to see she was alive. After a trip to the vet, Sage got a clean bill of health and she’s no worse for the wear after her eight-day mountain adventure.
