Denver Parks And Rec Hiring Homeless As Full-Time Seasonal Workers

Rita Robledo was one of four people from the Denver Day Works program to get hired as a full-time seasonal employee to work on cleaning the city’s parks. When the parks department was short-staffed for seasonal workers, they gave homeless people working for the Day Works program a chance.

“Last year they had dozens of openings that never got filled, and I have dozens of homeless who need jobs,” says Scott Kerr, director of the employment and opportunity center for Bayaud Enterprises, which runs the Denver Day Works program. “It’s a good fit.”
