High school senior Shaedon Wedel knew he needed an awesome “promposal” when he asked his date to go with him. And the Newton, Kansas, teen nailed it when he asked his best friend’s little sister, Carlie Wittman - who has Down syndrome - to be his date.
The 15-year-old girl walked outside her house and saw Wedel walking up, so she started jumping up and down with excitement at what she knew was coming next. He wore a shirt that read, “I know I’m NACHO typical Dorito but …” and the back read, “I’m going to be CHEESY and ask: Will you go to prom with me?”
The touching moment was shared on Twitter and has gone viral, it’s been shared over 112,000 times and has almost half a million likes, but the attention isn’t why Wedel asked Carlie.“It was really neat to see all the positivity coming out of it,” he says. “I didn’t do it for the publicity and stuff, I did it to make her happy. She deserves a lot.”
