These days a lot of people are finding love using dating apps, but just as many people wouldn’t be caught dead on one. They’ll all tell you the same excuses, that they don’t work or that folks on dating apps can be flakey and unresponsive. But a now a new survey by Tinder proves that most of the myths associated with dating apps are just that – myths
The site polled 9,000 U.S. men and women for their Modern Dating Myths survey, and some of the results may surprise you. For example, if you think dating apps aren’t for you because most people on them really aren’t looking for love, you’d be wrong.
In fact, only 9% of those on Tinder say they find it challenging to maintain a committed relationship while dating online, as compared to 44% of other online daters and 42% of offline daters. And contrary to popular belief, online daters are really interested in getting together in real life, with 25% of online daters waiting only two to seven days before meeting someone in person, as compared to 15% of offline daters.
With the swipe right and left mentality of Tinder most folks think you need to be good looking to find a mate on the site, but the survey shows that age and education are actually the two most important factors when looking for dates on Tinder, with appearance coming in third. And while most people think folks just want to hook up on Tinder, there are a lot of people really looking for lasting love, with 85% of online daters saying “I Love You” within the first year as compared to 80% of those who date offline.As for suggestions that Tinder is helping to spread STDs because of its hookup mentality, that also seems to be a fallacy. Thankfully 70% of Tinder users always use condoms when getting it on with a partner for the first time, which is way more than the 58% of those offline daters who say the same. And finally, a lot of people think online daters are just a bunch of cheaters hiding behind a profile, but it seems most people really do have true intentions. Overall, 93% of online daters say fidelity is important to them, as compared to 90% of those who date offline.
