"Rolling Stone" magazine will pay more than one and-a-half million dollars to settle a lawsuit filed by a University of Virginia fraternity. Phi Kappa Psi sued the magazine for defamation over a discredited 2014 story claiming that a young woman dubbed “Jackie” was gang-raped at a frat house.
"Rolling Stone" later retracted the story. A spokesman for the UVA chapter of the fraternity said on yesterday that the 1.65 million dollar settlement closes the book on what he called a "trying ordeal and its aftermath."
The story was retracted nearly a year later after police found the woman’s claim to have no evidence to back it up. Source: NBC News
