Video: Providence Falcons Feeding Their Babies

As I posted here a few weeks ago, the RI Audubon Society's falcon nest on the "Superman Building," high atop the downtown Providence skyline had several eggs. They hatched in the first week of May and four baby falcons, or "eyases" are in the nest. The eyases are now old enough to be left alone in the nesting box between feedings. These cute downy puffballs are growing fast. Keep an eye on the video and you'll see mom and dad return to the nest periodically to feed their young.

The Audubon Society says falcons usually "fledge" or leave the nest when they are 5 to 7 weeks old, so that would happen around early to mid-June. I'll keep you posted on progress.

(f the highlight video below. yi - The definition of an "Eyas" (pronounced "EYE-is"), is an offspring of any hawk or falcon which has not yet left the nest. After that they are called "fledglings," as is the case with most birds.
