Filling your cart at the supermarket can give you sticker shock these days, as prices have gone up on many of the items we typically toss in our shopping carts. That’s why so many of us are looking to save on our food budget, trying meal planning, coupons, shopping the sale and anything else we can think of. But one chef is sharing a new way to keep costs down and it couldn’t be easier.

Chef Will Coleman took to TikTok to explain his 6 to 1 grocery shopping method, which he notes is “super, super simple.” In the video below (which has been viewed over 900,000 times), he says, You grab six veggies, five fruits, four proteins, three starches, two sauces or spreads, and one fun thing for yourself.”

So you don’t need a list, you just buy what looks good at the store, and the 6 to 1 method simplifies shopping, reduces food waste, and saves money. Plus, it can make your grocery getting experience more fun, too. Since you’re limiting what goes in the cart, you’re less likely to overbuy and you’re more likely to use the fruits and veggies you get since that’s the bulk of what you’re buying.
