Providence Mayor Signs Exec Order Regarding Civil ICE Activities

Providence Mayor Brett Smiley has signed an Executive Order prohibiting the use of city-owned property for civil immigration enforcement activities.

The order bans the use of city properties for staging, processing or operations and it affirms that police will not act as immigration officers or ask individuals about their immigration status.

In addition, city departments will not proactively collaborate with ICE.

Mayor Smiley says his administration is committed to ensuring that Providence is safe and welcoming for everyone, regardless of immigration status.

The executive order directs city departments to identify the relevant properties with clear signage.
