The Rhode Island Department of Transportation Director, Peter Alviti is retiring from the post at the end of the month.
Alviti told the Governor that he believed the timing was right for him to leave the post.
The Director has been in the middle of the controversy over the closing of the westbound lanes of the Washington Bridge.
Governor McKee, in a statement, wished the director well and thanked him for his service to the state.
McKee says that a nationwide search for a new director will be undertaken.
Democratic Gubernatorial candidate Helene Foulkes had blasted the administration over the Washington Bridge issue and vowed that she would fire Alviti if she were elected.
