Dr Reprimanded After Child Is Stuck By Needle In Unsecured Sharps Container

A Rhode Island doctor has been reprimanded after a toddler accessed a used needle and syringe and injured himself.

According to the Board of Medical Licensure and Discipline, Dr. Leena Davis had failed to properly secure the needle, and she did not follow protocol for testing after the needle-stick that drew blood from the child's finger.

The doctor must now pay an 11-hundred-dollar administrative fee, complete a course on infectious disease and implement an office policy for the safe disposal of medical waste in exam rooms.
