A Providence firefighter is injured after falling down an elevator shaft at the Sister Dominica Manor housing development Monday afternoon.
Crews were called to the Atwells Avenue complex to free several individuals who were trapped in an elevator due to a power outage and the firefighter lost his footing and fell ten-feet down the elevator shaft.
The firefighter suffered serious injuries and was taken to the trauma center at Rhode Island Hospital for treatment.
Officials say the power outage was caused by a tree branch that fell on power lines near the development.
