RIDOT To Inspect Bridges Retrofitted By Amtrak

The Rhode Island Department of Transportation is investigating what caused the parapet and electrification barrier to come down from an overpass in Cranston and onto the train tracks Friday.

There were no injuries or collisions as a result of the debris.

Governor Dan McKee has ordered emergency inspections of similar bridges that were retrofitted with electrification barriers by Amtrak.

In addition, the structures will be reinforced. RIDOT has released the inspection report for the overpass from just over a year ago.

The report shows photos of corrosion, cracking, exposed rebar, and rust, but nothing regarding the part that fell.
